Pain after wisdom tooth extraction

(Pain after wisdom tooth extraction)

Hi I had a wisdome tooth extraction done 4 days ago and its became really sore and unbearable. What could this mean?

I'm worried that I may have and infection of some type. I would like some advice to help with the pain.

Reply:

It is within the time range that a dry socket could occur. A dry socket happens when the blood clot becomes dislodged from the extraction site exposing the bone and causing a lot of pain. If you have a dry socket your dentist will place some medicine in the extraction site to help it heal and may give you some pain medicine.

You should have a follow up visit with your dentist.

I'm so sorry you're having pain especially on the weekend. Be sure to call though... hopefully there will be a dentist on call to help you.

Hope you feel better soon,
~Shelly
