Tooth Extraction and visualization of a blood clot or scab

After an extraction of a lower molar, should you be able to see a blood clot or scab forming after 24 hours? Is it natural to see only a white center, with no clot?

Reply:

It is not necessary for you to see a blood clot. The blood clot may be under the white center. Your extraction site is actually not something you need to visually monitor. As long as you are following your dentist's instructions and you don't have unusual pain that could indicate a dry socket you should be fine. Just monitor your symptoms and protect the area by eating soft foods and gently rinsing as recommended by your dentist or surgeon.
